Fines for Failing to Comply

Beginning on July 1st, 2021, when a new, renewed or varied tenancy is signed on a Pukerua Bay rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items need to be done within 90 days.

All information in the Statement of Compliance needs to be accurate when the tenancy agreement is signed. It must be updated during the entire tenancy, as related work is completed.

It is crucial to keep in mind that landlords who own several rental properties can face more severe penalties for not complying. The highest penalties are handed down for serious breaches, and landlords with six or more properties can receive fines of up to $50,000, and even as high as $100,000 in hearings.

Tenancies commenced in the period between July 1st 2019 and 30 , June 20,21

  • Underfloor and ceiling insulation is compulsory for all Pukerua Bay and New Zealand rental homes where it’s reasonably practicable to put in.
