Fines for Failing to Comply
From the 1st of July in 2021, when a new or renewed contract is signed on a Paremata rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items must be taken care of inside of 90 days.

Failure to adhere to each of Healthy Homes Standards by the end of the expected timeframe can result in a fine of up to $7200. Every tenant is entitled to request details regarding the Healthy Homes Standard and how they relate to the property they are living in. If the landlord or property manager does not provide the necessary information within 21 days from receiving the request, they could receive an infringement letter and be fined upto $750.
Additionally, there is also a penalty as much as $900 for property owners or property managers providing a false or false Healthy Homes Statement of Compliance or information. The person responsible for this fine is whoever is identified on the tenancy contract as the person who is letting the property and it could be the name of the landlord as well as the property management company.
All information in the Compliance Statement needs to be current before the tenancy agreement can be executed, and it must be updated throughout the tenancy as any relevant work gets completed.
It is also crucial to note that a landlord who have multiple rental properties may receive greater penalties for non-compliance. The harshest penalties are reserved for severe breaches. Landlords with at least six rental properties could be penalised up to $50,000, and even as high as $100,000 in hearing claims.
