Fines for Failing to Comply

Beginning on July 1st, 2021, once a new, renewed or varied tenancy is signed for a Mount Victoria rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance tasks have to be taken care of by the end of 90 days.

From the 1st of July in 2021, when a brand new or renewed tenancy is signed on the Mount Victoria rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance work must be taken care of by the end of 90 days.

When Do I need to be in compliance with the Healthy Homes Standards?

Mount Victoria Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies commenced between 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2021

  • The insulation of the ceiling and underfloor is required to all Mount Victoria and New Zealand rental homes where it’s reasonably practicable to put in.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement along with an Insulation Declaration and an Insurance Statement should be included in any new, renewed or altered tenancy contract.
  • Property managers and landlords are required to keep records that demonstrate the compliance with the Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will apply during the tenancy of your rental home.

From 1 July 2021

  • Private landlords and property managers are required to make sure their rental properties comply according to Healthy Homes Standards within 90 days of a new, renewed or varied Tenancy.
  • All boarder houses (except Kainga Ora and registered Community Housing Provider for boarding household tenancies) must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of when the tenancy began.

Starting 1 July 2023

  • All households let from Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date when the tenancy started.

From July 1st 2024

  • All rental houses are required to comply with Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the time of the first day of tenancy.
