Fines for Failing to Comply

Since the 1st July of 2021, when a new or renewed contract is signed on an Aro Valley rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items must be finished inside of 90 days.

Aro Valley Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies signed from 1 July 2019 to 30 , June 20,21

  • Underfloor and ceiling insulation is mandatory throughout Aro Valley and New Zealand rental homes where it’s reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Statement of Intent to Comply, an Insulation Statement and an Insurance Statement must be included in any new, renewed or altered tenancy contract.
  • Property managers and landlords are required to keep records that demonstrate compliance with any Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will be applicable throughout the tenancy period of their rental properties.

From July 1st 2021

  • Property managers and private landlords have to ensure that their rental properties are in compliance with the Healthy Homes Standards within 90 days of any new, renewed , or altered tenant.
  • All boarding homes (except Kainga Ora and registered Community Housing Provider boarder home tenancies) must adhere to the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of when the tenancy began.

From July 1st 2023

  • All homes that are rented out to Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and Community Housing Providers that are registered are required to comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of when the tenancy first began.

Starting 1 July 2024

  • All rental homes must comply with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the date when the tenancy started.
